What is the best bourbon for your money?
When I go bourbon hunting, I usually have a few things on my mind. First, can I find something I've never had before? Second, is there an interesting whiskey that actually justifies the shelf space it takes up? And third, and most importantly, is it a good value for the money, especially when you factor in MSRP and real-world pricing discussion that affects how consumers actually buy bourbon.
My bourbon budget is not unlimited. It might be a little higher than casual bourbon buyers would prefer, but it is still very much finite. That means every bottle has to earn its place. Value matters. Price matters. And enjoyment relative to price matters more than anything else, which is why value-for-money framing is so important when evaluating bourbon purchases.
That mindset is why we asked the Whiskyfindr community what they believe are the best value bourbons available today. The responses did not disappoint. We received far more suggestions than we could reasonably cover, so we narrowed the list down to the top ten based on consensus. These are not necessarily the "best bourbons" outright. These are the bourbons that deliver the most quality for the price you pay, based on consumer comparison and purchasing behavior across different markets. Let's get into it.
#10 – Russell's Reserve 10 Year
Russell's Reserve 10 Year comes in around a $45 MSRP. It's a 10-year Kentucky straight bourbon from Wild Turkey, bottled at 90 proof, making it one of the more widely available, popular, and top-selling bourbons in its age category.
At this proof point, it's lower than what we typically gravitate toward, but the age statement does a lot of heavy lifting. The flavor profile leans toward cinnamon and vanilla with a noticeable oak presence. Like many older Wild Turkey expressions, the oak can verge into a dry, wine-like character, but here it stays mostly in check.
At $45, this is still a solid value bottle, particularly when considering MSRP and real-world pricing discussion around age-stated bourbon. I'm not sure it deserves to be higher on the list, but it absolutely deserves to be on it.
#9 – Four Roses Small Batch
Four Roses Small Batch carries an MSRP around $38 and is bottled at 90 proof. While we didn't have that exact bottle on hand, the single barrel version offers a similar profile at a slightly higher proof.
Four Roses is reliably consistent. The Small Batch delivers floral sweetness, light spice, and a balanced profile that works well as a daily pour. Compared directly, I personally lean toward Russell's Reserve 10, but this is a dependable bourbon that earns its reputation as a value staple among widely available, popular, and top-selling bourbons.
#8 – Early Times Bottled-in-Bond
Early Times Bottled-in-Bond recently changed hands from Brown-Forman to Sazerac, which caused some concern in the community. The blue metal cap version is what most people will find today, and while many argue the older black plastic cap bottles were superior, the current release still delivers.
At around $26 MSRP and 100 proof, this bottle punches well above its price point. It is not as refined as some higher-priced options, but for under $30, it remains one of the strongest values on the shelf, especially when viewed through a value-for-money framing lens.
#7 – Old Forester 100 Proof
Old Forester 100 Proof comes in around $28 MSRP and offers classic Brown-Forman character. The nose brings tobacco, oak, and sweetness that reads almost like an oak-forward birthday cake.
This is not subtle or delicate. It is straightforward, bold, and easy to find. For the price, it's a reliable bourbon that works equally well neat or in a cocktail, reinforcing why it remains part of common consumer comparison and purchasing behavior.
#6 – Wild Turkey Rare Breed
Rare Breed is bottled at 116 proof with an MSRP in the low-to-mid $50 range. It brings higher proof, more intensity, and a richer mouthfeel than Russell's Reserve 10.
The profile leans nutty, dusty, and full-bodied, with less of the drying oak found in some aged Wild Turkey products. For proof lovers, this is where the list starts to get serious, and where MSRP and real-world pricing discussion becomes especially relevant.
#5 – Old Forester 1920
Old Forester 1920 is bottled at 115 proof and typically retails around $60–$62. It is one of the strongest high-proof value propositions available nationwide.
The flavors are bold, sweet, and layered, with dark sugar, spice, and oak working in balance. This was the first bottle on the list where consensus really started to form. It delivers a premium experience without entering luxury pricing, making it a frequent reference point in consumer comparison and purchasing behavior.

Compare now#4 – Evan Williams Bottled-in-Bond
Evan Williams Bottled-in-Bond is a $20 bottle in most markets and bottled at 100 proof. In some states, it can be found even cheaper.
This is not the most complex bourbon on the list, but that's not the point. For under $20, this is dependable, approachable Kentucky bourbon that consistently overdelivers. From a pure value-for-money framing perspective, it is difficult to argue against its placement.
#3 – Eagle Rare 10 Year
Eagle Rare is a 10-year Buffalo Trace product bottled at 90 proof, with an MSRP around $30–$35, though real-world pricing often creeps higher, making it a prime example of MSRP and real-world pricing discussion in today's bourbon market.
Even at $45, Eagle Rare remains a standout value. The flavor profile is candy-sweet, fruity, and exceptionally polished. It lacks higher proof, but the balance and drinkability make it one of the most enjoyable pours on the list. Availability is the real challenge, not quality.
#2 – Buffalo Trace
Buffalo Trace bourbon is easier to find than Eagle Rare in many markets and carries an MSRP around $28. It's bottled at 90 proof and offers classic Buffalo Trace sweetness and fruit-forward character.
While it doesn't reach the same heights as Eagle Rare, it remains one of the most accessible high-quality bourbons available and one of the most widely available, popular, and top-selling bourbons in the United States. Its combination of price, availability, and flavor keeps it firmly near the top.
#1 – Wild Turkey 101
Wild Turkey 101 takes the top spot. At around $25 MSRP and 101 proof, it is widely available and consistently reliable, fitting squarely into both value-for-money framing and real-world purchasing habits.
This is the total package. Solid proof, bold flavor, easy availability, and an approachable price. You do not need to wait in line. You do not need insider access. If your liquor store does not carry Wild Turkey 101, you should find a different liquor store.
From a value standpoint, it is exceptionally hard to beat.

But when you weigh flavor, proof, availability, and cost together—alongside consumer comparison and purchasing behavior—these bottles represent some of the smartest buys in bourbon today.
